IMDB rating: 7.00

Plot: The Flying Scotsman is a feature film based on the remarkable true story of Scottish cyclist Graeme Obree. In 1993, and as an unemployed amateur, Obree broke the world one-hour record on a bike of his own revolutionary design, which he constructed out of scrap metal and parts of a washing machine.

Which Engine deserves to be the most famous out of these two and why?
The 2 options are: LNER Class A4 Pacific "Mallard" No 4468 OR LNER Class A3 Pacific "Flying Scotsman" No 4472 OR if you don;t like these two pick one you do like and give a good reason for it. give reason for your answers please, this is just a survey but i’d like some good answers.
erm as a personal prejudice i would pick Mallard but I do like more than them
ok ok the word is locomotive.

Although both are record breaking locomotives that deserve their place in history, I would tend towards 4472 simply as it is (or will be once it’s back up and running!) still a working locomotive, not a museum piece. Unlike "Mallard", it’s still possible to experience "Flying Scotsman" doing what it was designed to do, which as someone born long after the BR steam era ended, makes it feel more real to me.

It’s now left to the likes of "Union of South Africa" to fly the flag for the A4 class, while "Mallard" sits silently on its plinth in the National Railway Museum. I think that’s a little sad, but I understand their reasoning for preserving the loco in this way. "Flying Scotsman" is a bit like Trigger’s brush I expect, in that most original parts of the loco have been replaced over the years.

This is easy. Mallard to this day holds the world speed record for a steam locomotive.

98 Camaro Oil Pressure Instantly drops to zero?
Hello! I have a 98′ V6 Camaro with 107,000 miles on it. I’ve been having a lot of trouble with the oil pressure in it recently and was wondering if anyone knew what was going on. The car starts fine and drive fine, but every-so-often my car will just literally, turn off on me when I’m driving and I look at the dashboard and it says check gauges. I see that the Oil Pressure gauge reads 0. Then I have to coast off to the side of the road (if I can make it at whatever speed I might be going when the car shuts off), and restart my car. Sure enough, after a few tries, it will start right back up with the Oil Pressure gauge reading right in the middle, or 60. Then the entire process will repeat over and over again until I reach my destination. I feel very unsafe having my car just turn off while I’m driving with other cars behind me and in front of me. I EVEN CAUGHT IT DROPPING FROM 60 to 0 IN LESS THAN A SECOND! Does anyone know what could be wrong? Does anyone else have this problem with their Camaro or car? I don’t know what to fix! I’ve changed my oil and filter, I’ve replaced my Oil Pressure Sensor and nothing seems to make the difference! PLEASE HELP!!!!

I’ve also noticed when I travel on the Highway and I’m on cruise control, the car will be fine the entire trip without a problem! This is so irritating that I can’t figure this out.

the oil pressure drops to 0 when it dies right? that’s because it needs to be running to have oil pressure. the problem is not your oil, it is something electrical, possibly a broken wire that makes a connection most of the time? maybe the ignition switch or dash cluster, those are problematic in the 90s chevrolets. but from what you say, it is nothing to do with the oil, the lack of pressure is from the engine dying, not the cause of it.

How to make excellent burgers on the stove?
It is way too cold outside to grill and we want to make burgers. Is there a good way to make burgers on the stove top? We also can’t use the broiler because it doesn’t work. I know how to make a basic burger but are there any tips to make them really good on the stop top?

If it is too cold to use the BBQ, i fry them in the frying pan….mix a box of Stove Top Stuffing mix in with the ground beef and cook with the lid on….very very delicious!

One thing is you can make two patties and then put a slice of cheese between them. I always put Worcestershire sauce on mine and cover them cook slow they will be juicier Good Eats
Sassy | Jan 31, 2010

I mix in a bit of oatmeal, keeps them really moist. Also garlic salt. Start with high heat and let the meat brown on each side just like you would a steak, then put a cover on but allow room to vent so you’re not "boiling" the burgers. This is why I prefer glass lids so I can still see them cooking…

This is my fave way to cook burgers… I never use the grill because I find the stove keeps them moist and delicious! :) Molly Anne | Jan 31, 2010

When cooking burgers for a large crowd,
we buy patties at Sam’s Club or Costco.
You can get whatever commercial kind you like.
We cook on a flat-top gas range, use a griddle.
After browning we store them in hot water.
Then we finish them, flip & add cheese.
We put a lid over to melt the cheese.

Should I feel confident or not confident about being accepted to this grad school?
I interviewed at a graduate school.

Some things happened that makes me feel good about my chances of being accepted and some things kind of "disheartening"

Some things that make me feel good
1) My GPA is above the average for the school and my GRE is only 10 points below the average.
2) A couple of the grad students, and one of the faculty members said this interview is essentially a character assessment and unless you do something absurd like get drunk or say "I don’t want to do research" you are in. They also told me I am more than likely going to get in.
3) They spent > $1200 getting me up there. (I came from across the country, most of the others were from California).
4) A full professor, program director, graduate director and the admissions committee chair emailed me saying "I hope you will seriously consider coming to UC" Also I had that man listed as one of the faculty members I would like to work with, I talked with him a lot at one of the "dinner parties", I interviewed with him (nothing went wrong in that). He also (in a completely other session he took me through his lab and showed me all of his experiments. Plus he is actively seeking students.
5) My second interview in another department seemed to go well and he told me "everything looks good in your application" then said "if you have any questions now is the time" (but we actually ran out of time so we had to leave shortly after).

Some things that make me feel a little less positive about my chances…

1) The assistant dean of graduate studies (who I talked to quite a bit (more than the other interviewees)) who I spent most of the time at the interview with did not respond to my thank you email. I sent it like 3 days ago.
2) One of the other interviewees left the interview with a sweater from the school. She didn’t wear it while we were there and she doesn’t go there. It seemed like they may have gave it to her and not me =/.
3) the student representative on the admission committee and I only talked a little. Nothing bad was said but I can’t see him picking me over some of the other people he was able to talk to me.

What do you think? Should I be worried? It feels like I am going to get in, but I continue to think about what went wrong.

I wouldn’t worry too much, especially if the professor you plan to work with likes you. Besides, you can’t change anything at this point, so stressing yourself out won’t do any good. Just relax and whatever happens, happens.
MM | Feb 04, 2010

Sit back and relax. Since you are still waiting to be confirmed by the school, so you have nothing can do at this point. But on the other hand, you can do some preparation (both mental and physical) first in case you are really going in this school eg. How to make friend with the student representative, what is the best way to communicate with the assistant dean, etc. I believe that it’s more important than you just stay at home and worry about that.

Adam and Eve (2005)

IMDB rating: 4.50

Plot: Disheveled musician and college student Adam (Cameron Douglas, son of Michael Douglas) goes out of his way to meet the beautiful Eve (Emmanuelle Chriqui) on campus. In no time, the two are in love. Everything goes swimmingly except in the bedroom, where Eve asserts her right to remain a virgin until she’s ready. Adam—though deferential—takes her requirement personally and demands to know what “ready” means. The pair go on like this for months, with Adam remaining true to his passion for Eve, despite howls of protest from his degenerate housemates (among them Jake Hoffman, son of Dustin Hoffman)…

Is the SkepticsAnnotatedBible.com website ignorant of the Bible or simply deceptive in its propaganda?
Example: On Genesis 4:17, it says:

" ‘And Cain knew his wife.’ That’s nice, but where the hell did she come from? The Bible doesn’t mention any of Cain’s sisters."

Obviously, this is a Bible criticism that only the uneducated would fall for (or perhaps those with poor reading comprehension capabilities) because just a few words away at Genesis 5:4, they should have noticed: "The days of Adam after he fathered Seth were 800 years; and he had other sons and daughters."

Indeed, over such a long life lifespan, wouldn’t SkepticsAnnotatedBible expect them to have MANY sons and daughters. In any case, one wonders why — other than simple stubbornness or dishonesty — anyone would pretend that Adam and Eve would be unlikely to have daughters. I’ve always been curious as to why SkepticsAnnotatedBible.com bothers to post so many illogical Bible "criticisms" of this sort. Any theories out there? Is it simply a philosophy of "quantity and not quality" that assumes its audience is comprised only of those who share their anti-Biblical sentiments and aren’t at all interested in honesty inquiry and facts?

It is nothing more than a tool of satan to discredit God… This is what some one has came up with to give Atheist and non believers to use against Christians.. Its main purpose it to try and convince people that the Bible is nothing but a book of contidictions…There is a site that a Christian man has that has every answer to the skeptics Bible…Here is the link

Yes.
HTacianas | Feb 04, 2010

The idea of him living 800 years is pretty laughable by itself, but still.

I dunno, maybe its trying to point out they should have mentioned such things in order? I don’t put much stock in it, I read the Bible and decided for myself anyways

Edit: Actually upon visiting the site they do acknowledge Genesis 5:4: ""And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters."
Finally, sometime in the next 800 years, Adam begat some daughters. These nameless ones are the first (and nearly the last) girls to be born in the Bible. "

It seems like the Bible sort of indicates Cain marrying a wife before it mentions any daughters of Adam. Eh, oh well
Nate | Feb 04, 2010

Both. However, they are useful. I’d never heard of the website until I saw atheists on here linking to it. So I started going through it. It didn’t hurt my faith at all; in fact, it helped it a lot, because I went through and really began studying what the Bible says. So the website strengthened, and continues to strengthen, my faith in ways that I never would have thought possible.

actually you need to stop blasting people who don’t believe in your religion… they actually use bible verses that show counter-activity… so what is your problem… it is you that is illogical to say that they are illogical… i read the whole bible and that’s why i’m not a christian anymore… read your bible through and through and THEN tell everyone what you think
————————————–
think this over… the bible says to love thy fellow man and to not kill… yet "god" commands people to wipe out another society including all the women and children? does anyone hear the word genocide in their heads? just like hitler did… or at least tried to do
————————————–
oh that reminds me.. it isn’t just the bible they pick apart for examples.. the quran and the book of mormon are right up there to if you’d even bother to look…

All the SkepticsAnnotatedBible.com does is quote the bible as it is written and highlight the many faults and inconsistencies in the book.

Rather than complain about them you should actually look at the site and then do some serious bible study.

All they do it take the bible as being the literal word of a perfect deity and point out that it is a much less than perfect tome.

The SkepticsAnnotatedBible.com ALSO points out the good stuff in the bible http://skepticsannotatedbible.com/good/l ong.html

So if you criticize them you also need to brush up on your bible studies and see that what they say is actually the truth as it is written in the book of your God.

Adam and Eve had two daughters. Luluwa and Akila. This is not found in the Bible of course but has roots in ancient Biblical lore. It is said that cain killed Able because he wanted to marry Luluwa but she was promised to Able.

Now, idiots who have not studied religion will give me thumbs down but I have been studying this stuff for over 25 years. I use the website as it is easy to search certain phrases and keywords so your point is moot and you are a loser.
Slightly Amused 7th Account | Feb 04, 2010

while it is true that there are some things in the SAB that are inaccurate, or could be falsified by other sections in the bible, there are also many criticisms that simply could not be explained away.

for example, in Genesis 1:25-27, god makes humans after the other animals, and creates man and woman simultaneously.
however, in Genesis 2:18-22 god creates man, than the other animals, than woman from mans rib.
these two accounts are directly contradictory. you cant make man both before and after the other animals.

there are large numbers of criticisms of the bible from SAB that are either insignificant, not problems, or are righted by other verses, but that doesn’t take any credibility away from the criticisms that point out direct contradiction, or impossibility.

kdanley | Feb 04, 2010

Why would you assume that a book which claims that a man can live for 800 yrs is true? If you’ve ever taken a course in basic logic, then you would understand that your position is based on an illogical PRESUPPOSITION. Would you accept such a claim from any other book? Should I accept ANY book’s claim that a human being can live for 800 yrs, or are you ignorant of basic biology and/or simply deluding yourself?

I agree with you on 1 point - I’m not sure why the authors of that website would waste time with such a trivial argument, when it is so much easier to disprove the existence of the Christian version of "god" using basic logic based on the concepts of freewill, power, and responsibility. The Bible’s version of the Christian version of "god" is one of the most easily disprovable versions of a "god" ever invented. Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

Why did the NFL fail in Los Angeles back when it had the Raiders and the Rams? why was there not a lot of fan?
support? how come there was not a lot of fan support in Los Angeles back when Los Angeles had the Rams and the Raiders? A lot of people say the reason why the NFL will not return to the second-largest city in the United States is because back when the Raiders and Rams were there, there was not very many fan support because those teams kept losing, that people only supported them if they were winning, how come? How come the Lakers and the Dodgers were more popular? and the Kings Hockey team? It’s very weird because Football is the Nation’s most popular sport, it became the most popular sport in the 1960’s and still remains so in the present.
I live in Southern California, the Los Angeles/Orange County area and I really think it is unfair and stupid that Los Angeles lacks an NFL team still. How come Basketball and Baseball are more popular in the Los Angeles/Orange County area than Football is? That is really weird, UCLA and USC doesn’t count because those are College teams.
why do smaller cities such as Houston, St. Louis, get to have an NFL team? but not Los Angeles?
c’mon, it’s the second-largest city and media-market in the United States, L.A. needs an NFL team!!!!

I agree with you that it is stupid that LA does not have an NFL team. However, I don’t believe the NFL failed in LA, I believe that LA failed their teams. The Raiders had a couple of good years, and the Rams also, along with some top "super" star players that should have brought in the fans. However, the support that LA should have given those teams just didn’t match up with the Dodgers and Lakers, plus I believe there was controversy over a new stadium.

RUESTER | Jan 08, 2010

who cares???????? L.A. doesn’t deserve an NFL franchise they got Kobe.
Barrett | Jan 08, 2010

Probably the biggest part was the league wanted a new stadium and it didn’t help that neither had great teams overall.
JOHN D | Jan 08, 2010

The Rams sucked for years in the early 90s. Owner Georgia Frontiere made terrible personnel moves and ruined the team. So, nobody went to the games. In 1994, she then moved them to St. Louis, who had been missing a football team since the Cardinals had moved to Arizona 8 years earlier.

And, the city of LA wouldn’t renovate the LA Coliseum. So, in 1995, Al Davis moved the Raiders back to Oakland, where Alameda County agreed to renovate the Oakland Coliseum.

Baseball and basketball are popular in Southern California - and in LA specifically - because the Dodgers and Lakers are perennial winners who have been in the community for a long time, and ownership is willing to spend what it takes to win. The Kings are owned by the same ownership group that owns the Lakers (Jerry Buss and company). And, they used to be a very competitive team, especially when Wayne Gretzky played for them.
Paul in San Diego | Jan 08, 2010

As Paul said, much of what went on was in response to the facilities. The LA Coliseum is OK for USC, but substandard for NFL teams. When the Rams were in Anaheim, it was an improvement on the Coliseum, but it was still a remodeled baseball stadium, and they were definitely the #2 tenant. So the team deliberately cut attendance so they could get out of their lease.

In 94 I drove down to LA, to try and see the Niners play the Rams in Anaheim. On Thursday I was told the game was sold out, but on Sunday the game was blacked out because of 12,000 unsold tickets.
Will | Jan 08, 2010

Assassins Creed I w/ PS3 Slim?
Hi, I recently bought a PS3 slim and it came with a copy of Assassins Creed I. While playing the game, I found that sometimes the game will freeze up and I would have to manually press the button on the PS3 in order to turn off the system (the only thing I can do in that situation). This has never happened while playing my other games (MGS4, Soul Calibur 4, Price of Persia, etc).
I know that sometimes this happens to PC games or even PS2 games where a scratched or dirty disk is to blame but the disk looks new (and it is). What is to blame: the Assassins Creed copy or the PS3 slim? I think 80% probably the disk is faulty but 20% maybe its the slim just having a bit of trouble playing a game that takes a lot of resources to play. Not 100% sure so I posted this question. Thanks for any answers! ^_^

It could be a malfunction with the cd reader the only problem with that is that your other games play perfectly, so its prob. the disk maybe there is corrupt data, or the disc could be damaged there are other ways a disc could be damage and not show damage for ex. a big fall could ruin data or if you spilt something on it. Also assassins creed is not a very demanding game so its prob. not the ps3 faults.

Mr.jiggles | Jan 19, 2010

I have assasins creed 2 and a PS3 original and there is no difference in spec between a PS3 and a slim, and i cant imagine creed 2 pulling any less then creed 1. My guess would be its just a bit glichy as it wasnt originally made for the ps3.
Luke | Jan 19, 2010

I doubt it’s the disc. It’s probably the PS3 Slim malfunctioning. I’d get it exchanged, or fixed by Sony.

Well I think that there maybe something wrong with the disk but your ps3 could be running slow at some parts and it freezes up.

I'm wanting to sort of get closer with my new roommate, but he's 16 years old to put it simple?
PLEASE don’t just read my headline and insult me without even having a clue of what I’m talking about..

Due to work related reason I had to move to Canada,BC 2and a half weeks ago and will be living there for 6-8 months. I don’t know anyone here so I just went onto the craigslist to look for a roommate who had a spare room. I was so lucky and found an ad in a perfect area, Male Seeking roommate in a nice and clean 2 bedroom apartment on 5th floor. I arranged everything and phoned him and then met him the next day, The apartment was beautiful ,there was alot of nice furniture and fairly affordable (550 each) and the guy was real cute and real nice too!and fairly affordable. So I thought this would be perfect and we made an agreement. I think it was the 29th of August I actually moved in.
Jamie (my roommate) was living there for the last 3 months and his other roommate had to leave, and couldn’t afford a 2 bedroom by himself. We got along from the start real well, Before I moved from the US I wasn’t expecting anything at all. He showed me around Vancouver, its actually quite pretty here. I thought he was at least 24 or 25, until we were talking about work and then said he starts school in September and I asked what courses, and then laughed and said I’m in High school;WHICH is when I discovered he was 16. I was actually VERY impressed and couldn’t believe he was only 16, but the reason he lives independently is because his father was an alcoholic who he lived with, and his mother was a religious fanatic who turned into a drug addict. He goes to school until 3, goes to the gym everyday, and then straight to his work at a warehouse until 11pm making $13 an hour and comes back home exhausted, pays his own rent and food, and then works again full time on Saturday from Noon and part time on Sunday so I have so much respect for him, and I really do think he’s amazing. He resents his parents and does not talk to them, they do not support him in anyway either.

I still don’t know anyone around here, but he’s the one person that I’d love to get to know better and hang out with while I’m living here, he’s really interesting and kind but he doesn’t have anyone, no brothers, he’s all alone basically. Last Weekend, I asked him if he would like to stay home and hang out with me and we could spend all night watching movies together(we both have a good size collection) he seemed pretty happy about the idea and said sure. I was pretty excited I would get to bond with him a little more! That night I had my big blanket out with me on the couch and he was sitting at the very end and seemed a bit shy, I playfully said to come get comfortable with me and we can snuggle!…His face turned red for a sec but we ended up curled up together! The night ended up real fun and we stayed up until 4 before he fell asleep on me which was way too cute. I wasn’t really implying anything other than a fun night, I’m not exactly sure if I have a "crush" on him,but indeed sexy, an extremely gorgeous body and just amazing overall. I just don’t see him as a 16 year old, I don’t intend on finding another guy while I’m here for a relationship, I’d rather spend time with Jamie and get to know him better because his age doesn’t really mean anything to me at this point. To put it simple, when we both are free not working, we are doing stuff together-it just turned out that way. He’s got a real awesome personality as well. I do know he’s a virgin, we’ve talked about our views on that subject, he hasn’t met a girl at school he’s liked enough or his age. I’ve had sex with THREE guys in my life, but a part of me is wanting to get intimate with him eventually, not now but eventually..It hasn’t been that long yet, but after about a month or so I want to ask him about it, how do I bring this subject up with him without making it awkward? I know it seems crazy, but you would never think he was 16. Any advice, please!! Thank you so much.
It is not illegal in Canada, The age here is 16(and he turns 17 in January). Please don’t criticize me just over his age.
I’m 30. I know it all sounds crazy, but the way things are going I would really enjoy doing this with him. He would be my fourth, I haven’t been in any sort of relationship within the last 2 years.

He sounds very mature, so I don’t think his age is really an issue here. So it just comes down to whether or not you want to date your room mate. It is not really a bad thing to do, it is just that if things don’t work out then you are in a difficult situation.
But from the way you describe him, he sounds great. And you will only regret it if you don’t try, so you might as well just go for it.

Regardless of age, it tends to make things weird if you have sex with a room-mate and for whatever reason don’t decide to be together. Jealousy can make things REALLY bad around the house. I say hang out with him but do -not- get intimate.

Ok so the question is: how do I tell this boy I like him, yes?

If you can manage to say it in less than 2000 words chick, ‘would you like to go out with me?’

You seem to be doing quite a good job of getting close to him, all by yourself. But boy, I’m imagining you love to chat and chat and chat… until he falls asleep! lol

Edit: You’re 30!! Wow and you want to bed a 16yr old virgin?!! Now I see why you’ve put so much explaination!!

Wow hun, well erm, whatever floats your boat…. if he’s willing, but remember as much as he comes across as really mature, he might have his own reasons for still being a virgin, and is probably very sexually immature in that respect - you don’t want to scare the poor boy…

Jeez though if this was the other way round, and you were the 30 yr old man trying to get with a 16yr old girl…. I’d be saying get someone your own age! It doesn’t matter how much explaining you do, you can’t get away from the fact this still sounds kinda sick. And predatory.

Yeah, I agree with the guy above me. Don’t get intimate with him.

EDIT: You’re 30? Whoa. I repeat, do not get intimate with the boy. Don’t even take his virginity away.
Just get to know him first.
How creepy if I was him.
30 and 16?

I would say that, if you like him and dont have a problem with his age then this is an acceptable relationship. But i do feel he may be vulnerable, so if you genuinely care about him then you will take your time with him and build his trust like his parents failed to do.

Also i think if you are going to leave in a few months you could throw him off balance in what seems to be an extremely successful life he has carved out for himself.

I really dont feel age is the problem but his situation and the distance between you, although it is not illegal to be in an intimate relationship where you are now, but would the same rules apply back in your home town, im not sure im from england where the age of consent is 16 but i understand it is 18 in many states.

Also how old are you and what do you plan to do after canada?

Jamie has no contact with his parents and he could well be seeing you as a mother figure, so think about this before you seduce him ! He even fell asleep on you, like a kid sometimes falls asleep on its mother ! I also suggest that, before you do anything drastic, you get to know a few more people in Vancouver, rather than obsessing about this young man all the time. He seems to have had a very troubled time with his own family and having his first sexual fling with someone so much older, who’s going to leave anyway in a few months, could have a very traumatic effect on him.
You really should stop thinking about yourself and what YOU want and think about the possible consequences of all this.
